The Durham Chapel Hill Carrboro Transportation Advisory Committee has approved the routing of a future light rail corridor connecting Durham and Chapel Hill through the Hwy 54 Corridor. There are two options for this route, known as C1 (through Meadowmont) and C2 (along Hwy 54 and across the intersections with Barbee Chapel Road and Downing Creek Parkway), and both of these will be advanced for further analysis. It may be several years before the actual route through the area will be determined.

The Durham City Council will be voting on February 20th on whether to extend city services to the 751 South project. This project has been vocally opposed by many South Durham residents due to environmental concerns, lack of committed elements to require the developer to actual build what they advertised, lack of transportation infrastructure, and the costs to Durham tax-payers. The project was previously approved by the Durham County Commissioners despite barely legal actions by the developer to block the protest rights of neighboring Durham residents.

Here are a couple alternatives for providing input on the future development and changes along Highway 54. While these topics are certainly related, there are different groups driving each project, with separate schedules and decision to be made. Obviously at some point these plans will need to come together, but at this point it's important to make sure your comments are directed to the proper group.
